What Does Local 4116 Do?
Our job is to give Castle Rock firefighters a unified voice in the decisions that affect our profession.
We work collaboratively with Town Council, Town leadership, and Fire Department Administration on issues involving firefighter pay, safety and benefits with focus on long-term needs of the fire department.
We also advocate at the state and national level on issues affecting firefighters and public safety.
Our goal is straightforward: help make Castle Rock a place where exceptional firefighters want to build an entire career.

Protecting the People Who Protect Castle Rock
A career in the fire service carries risks that extend well beyond fires and emergency scenes.
Firefighters face repeated exposure to carcinogens, significant cardiovascular demands, disrupted sleep, occupational stress, traumatic events, and the cumulative physical demands of a career responding to emergencies.
Cancer remains one of the most significant occupational threats facing firefighters. Research has also identified increased risks for certain cancers among firefighters compared with the general population.
Local 4116 works to reduce those risks and advocate for protections when occupational illness or injury does occur.
That includes supporting improvements in:
Cancer Prevention & Protection
Reducing exposure, improving protective practices, and supporting firefighter cancer protections.
Behavioral Health
Expanding awareness, resources, and access to care for the cumulative mental-health effects of emergency response.
Cardiovascular Health
Supporting prevention, screening, fitness, and protections addressing one of the fire service's most significant occupational health risks.
Injury & Recovery
Advocating for policies and benefits that allow firefighters to recover appropriately from injuries sustained throughout a physically demanding career.
A Career Built Around Service
Castle Rock firefighters work a 48-hour-on/96-hour-off schedule, averaging a 56-hour workweek and approximately 2,920 scheduled hours each year before overtime, callbacks, training, or other additional assignments.
That means a Castle Rock firefighter is scheduled to spend roughly 122 full days every year at the fire station, away from home and family.
Local 4116 works to ensure that the people making that commitment have a safe workplace, competitive career opportunities, appropriate benefits, and a meaningful voice in their profession.
Working Together
Advocacy doesn't have to mean conflict.
For more than 25 years, Local 4116 has worked to build productive relationships with Castle Rock's elected officials, Town leadership, and Fire Department Administration.
That collaboration has helped produce meaningful improvements in staffing, emergency response resources, firefighter recruitment and retention, community investment, and the relationship between our firefighters and the Town.
Our responsibility is to bring the experience and perspective of the firefighters doing this work every day to the table — and then work collaboratively toward solutions.
Because taking care of Castle Rock's firefighters ultimately means taking care of Castle Rock.
In 2026, Castle Rock Town Council unanimously formalized that relationship by recognizing Local 4116 as the representative of Castle Rock firefighters.
